This plant prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can cause their delicate leaves to burn or lose their vibrant colour. A spot near a window that gets filtered light, such as behind sheer curtains, is ideal. It can also tolerate lower light conditions, but its growth may slow down.

How Often Should I Water My Philodendron Mamei?

Keep the soil evenly moist, but not waterlogged. The Philodendron Mamei doesn’t like to sit in water, as its roots are prone to rot. Water it when the top inch of the soil feels dry, which is usually about once a week. Make sure the pot has good drainage to prevent water from sitting at the bottom.

Humidity and Temperature

Since it hails from tropical rainforests, this plant loves humidity. Aim for 60% or higher humidity levels for optimal growth. You can use a humidifier, mist the plant occasionally, or group it with other plants to create a more humid environment. It prefers temperatures between 18-27°C, so try to keep it away from cold drafts or direct heat sources.

Potting and Soil Tips

Philodendron Mamei thrives in a loose, well-draining soil mix like our GrowTropicals Philodendron Potting Mix. This mix ensures the roots have adequate air circulation while also retaining enough moisture and nutrients for the plant to thrive. As a crawling or creeping plant, the Philodendron Mamei benefits from a troph-shaped pot, which allows its roots to spread horizontally and cover more ground. Repotting is only necessary when the plant has outgrown the edges of the pot, typically every 1-2 years, or when you notice the roots reaching the ends of the container. Repotting not only provides the space needed for continued growth but also refreshes the soil, helping to promote the development of large, lush, jungle-like leaves.
